Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to print your own checks?+
Yes. Under UCC § 3-104(f), a “check” is simply a draft payable on demand and drawn on a bank — the law does not require bank-issued check stock. Printing a check on an account you own or are authorized to draw on is legal and common (businesses do it every day with accounting software). You may only create checks on an account you own or are authorized to draw on. See also UCC § 3-401 on signatures.
Will my bank accept a check printed on plain paper?+
Yes for mobile deposit and remote check scanning from your phone — banks process those as images under the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (Check 21), Pub. L. 108-100, codified at 12 U.S.C. §§ 5001–5018. Section 4 (12 U.S.C. § 5003) and Federal Reserve Regulation CC, 12 CFR § 229.51, make image-based substitute checks the legal equivalent of the original. Phone scanning will always work under that framework. For in-person teller or ATM deposits, plain paper usually works too; for guaranteed acceptance at every teller and ATM, print onto blank check security paper with magnetic MICR toner.
Is Sendilly really free?+
Yes. You can fill out and print or download your own check for free. Optional paid features — like custom logo branding and emailing a check — are available later.
Do I need special paper or ink to start?+
No. Special paper and MICR toner are industry standards for automated reader/sorter machines — not a legal requirement for an instrument to be a check under UCC § 3-104(f). Plain 8.5"x11" paper works for image-based (mobile and remote) deposits under Check 21. For in-person teller or ATM reliability, we recommend check security paper and MICR magnetic toner.
Is my bank information safe?+
For printing at home, your check details are used right in your browser to build the PDF. We do not transmit or store your routing or account numbers for the print-at-home flow.
